1WC Delayed! Shock and Horror!

The title is a little dramatic, but that is what it can seem like when plans change. As you know from previous blogs, I work full time during the daylight hours as an Archivist. Well, I made the foolish call of scheduling a 1WC during the same week that I was tasked with moving my whole Archive. Not a good idea. Needless to say, I did not really accomplish much towards the goal that I had set forth. Something about moving thousands of pounds of documents by hand made me too tired to want to do anything else. Go figure. … Continue reading 1WC Delayed! Shock and Horror!

1WC: Setting Up a YouTube Channel

One Week to edit, polish, and ready a show for YouTube release In my last challenge, I worked on becoming a freelance writer. It is a goal that I have been striving towards for some time and the act of putting it down on paper, or screen if you will, caused me to work toward the goal. There is a certain power in writing something down, a commitment to it that does not come with simply stating it. The spirit of the 1WC (1 Week Challenge for new folks) is to take something that I have been passively working towards … Continue reading 1WC: Setting Up a YouTube Channel

7 Days to Change Your Ways update and new article on Vocal

As you probably guessed from the title, this is not going to be a full article but more of any update. I’ll cover the most relevant ground first. After feeling like I didn’t meet the mark in my last challenge, something cool happened. I kept with it, for once. After the challenge I have gotten into the habit of sending about a pitch a day to keep things moving. Not the 30 I was shooting for, but it is consistent. The second key part of the process is follow up. I have been following up to every pitch about two … Continue reading 7 Days to Change Your Ways update and new article on Vocal

7 Days to Change Your Ways: Conclusion

A lesson in setting reasonable expectations Heading into this 7 day challenge or 1WC (1 Week Challenge), I was ready to put in the work, but it was not meant to be. Due to stupidity on my part in my personal life, the beginning of the challenge was stymied due to dealing with some very legitimate problems at home. If I ever write a blog post about relationships, I’ll be sure to write about it. Needless to say, I did not hit the goals that I set, but I have gained some forward momentum. Also, remember when I said I … Continue reading 7 Days to Change Your Ways: Conclusion

Setting Goals: The Importance of Accomplishment and Order

Here is a list of goals that I laid out a while ago. I still strive to do these things and will continue to do so. This will be the last post before I begin 7 Days to Change Your Ways and report back on Day 1 with a blog post on Sunday. It is important to have these goals, but as I will cover in my next blog post, it is equally as important to know when you have set impossible goals. I have put together this article not because I do all of the things outlined. Quite to … Continue reading Setting Goals: The Importance of Accomplishment and Order

One Week Challenge: A Summary of my first 1WC

There is a reason that I was so apprehensive about doing another 1WC. As you will see from the post below, the results from my first go around were mixed. I have identified some of the problems with my first model and will talk about them in my blog post on Sunday, after my first day of the new challenge. This was originally posted on September 10, 2018. Things do not always play out according to plan. In my previous post I had laid out plans for a one week challenge to get all of my goals back on track. … Continue reading One Week Challenge: A Summary of my first 1WC

One Week Challenge: How I took One Week to Get Five Goals Back on Track

In the spirit of my upcoming return to the 1WC (1 Week Challenge), I am posting my original challenge and the follow-up. I plan to begin the next challenge this Saturday, May 2nd 2020. Enjoy! This was originally published on August 22nd, 2018 Sometimes we bite off more than we can chew, in fact I’ve written about it before. It’s a human thing, that part of us that is creative and filled with ideas can clash with the reality of the world. Family, bills, and a day job get top billing as they should, along with all of the other … Continue reading One Week Challenge: How I took One Week to Get Five Goals Back on Track

7 Days to Change Your Ways: Becoming a Freelance Writer

Can one week of hard work change your life? Let’s find out! I’m a believer in the moon shot. For folks who are unfamiliar with term, it is essentially setting a goal that seems too great or grand to be true, and then sticking with it until the the job is done. I know it is hard to look at the current times and view this as a time of opportunity. A pandemic is raging and there is instability in both the labor market and society in general. Another thing has also become obvious; the inherent risk of counting on … Continue reading 7 Days to Change Your Ways: Becoming a Freelance Writer
